When you find what you need, bring your items and your Catawba One or Pleiades card to the Circulation Desk to check out. Be sure to note the due dates for your items. Item loan lengths can be found in our loan policy.
Faculty may allow students to check out items on their behalf through our Faculty Proxy system.
As a courtesy, overdue notices are sent out daily, via email, at 7:00am. Patrons are held responsible for returning items on time.
All items should be returned to the library by their due dates. Items can be placed in the book return slot at the Circulation Desk, or in the Book Drop located at the library entrance if the library is closed.
There are some standing due dates for items. Students must return all items by the first day of final exams. Faculty are expected to return their items at the end of the academic year. If faculty are ending their affiliation with the school, all items are due no later than fifteen days after the end of the term of employment. If any materials are not returned by the above times, they will be presumed lost and will be billed from the Business Office.
If you need your item past its due date, it may be renewed once consecutively, unless a hold has been placed on it. You must renew your item before it is due.
Catawba affiliated patrons may be renew items online from their Library Account Once you log in with your Catawba username and password, click the My Library Account link near the top right of the page. From there, check the box next to the item to be renewed and click the Request Renewal button.
All patrons can request renewals in person at the Circulation Desk or by calling (704)637-4448 during normal library hours.
Catawba affiliated patrons may visit the Circulation Desk to request that a hold be placed on an item that is currently checked out by another person. That item will not be eligible for renewal, and when it is returned the item will be held and the requester notified.
Catawba affiliated patrons may request that recalls be placed on items that have been checked out for over 30 days to another borrower. Recalled items are expected to be returned immediately. Items needed for Course Reserves can be recalled at any time.
The library charges fines for overdue items. Details for fines can be found in our loan policy.
For Catawba Students, all fines and fees are due before the end of the semester and all unpaid fines and fees are sent to the Business Office at the end of each semester. You may see fines and fees you have been charged by checking your Library Account Once you log in with your Catawba username and password, click the My Library Account link near the top right of the page. From there, click on the Charges tab and you'll be able to view any outstanding library fines. .
All borrowers are subject to our Lost or Damages Item replacement policy. Lost items should be reported immediately to avoid the accrual of overdue charges. If the item is found and returned undamaged to the Library within six months from the first day it is overdue, the replacement cost of the material alone, will be refunded.
The formula used to calculate the total cost if item replacement is shown below.

Community borrowers with a minimum of $5.00 fines/fees will have their borrowing privileges suspended until the balance is paid.
Students with a minimum of $10.00 in fines/fees will have their borrowing privileges suspended until the balance is paid.
