Placing Items on Course Reserve
Faculty can place items, such as books and DVDs (we cannot accept VHS tapes, notes, or copies), on reserve at the Help Desk. These items are meant for class use throughout the semester, and can be pulled from the library’s collection or from a faculty member’s personal collection. (Please note, VHS tapes, notes, chapters and copied portions of books cannot be placed on reserve and should instead be scanned to your Blackboard course.) Any personal items placed on reserved will be labeled and barcoded before students are given access, so please allow 24 hours for processing. The library is not responsible for damage, theft, or wear on personal copies. These items are made available only to students enrolled within your course, and limit checkout periods so that all students have equal access to the items. To place items on reserve, please complete this form, or email/contact Nadia Price (704-645-4543). All course reserve items are removed at the end of each semester, so please be sure to retrieve personal items before the start of the next semester.
To search for items on reserve, please visit our course reserve page.

Check Out Items
If there’s something in particular you’d like to find, you can search our catalog here for the availability and location of the item. We also offer directions on how to find an item. However, our Help Desk staff members are always available to help find an item in the library. Once you’re ready to checkout, please bring the item(s) to the Help Desk with your faculty ID card.
Return Items
If the library is open, please bring the items to a staff member at the Help Desk. If the library is closed, an outdoor book drop is located on the wall to your left, right before you enter the library. A staff member will retrieve the items when the library reopens. Please do not return reserve items to the book drops. Bring them directly to a staff member during normal operating hours.
Renew an Item
You can ask for a renewal in-person, over the phone, or through our website. To renew an item online, go to My Account, located on the library’s homepage, and log in with your Catawba username and password. Log in like you would to your college computer or Catlink. Beside of the item you would like to renew, click “Renew.” Your new due date should display under the due date column. If an item is already overdue, you will not be allowed to renew it online. Please contact Nadia Price to renew the item. If you have already renewed a library DVD or book once, we ask that the items be brought in to renew them a second time, since these items are checked out for a period of an academic year.
Fines and Fees
Faculty members are not responsible for most overdue fines and fees, but are responsible for fines resulting from overdue Graphic Novels, Popular Reading items, headphones, the calculator, or flash drive.
Recalls/Holds
If there is an item checked out that you need for coursework or research, you can place a hold on the item, which ensures that the item cannot be renewed, and you will be notified when it is returned. Holds cannot be placed on reserve items. Please see the Help Desk to place a hold.
If there is an overdue item that you need for coursework or research, you can request a recall on that item. Recalls requires items to be returned immediately. This applies to all library items. Items needed for course reserves can be recalled at any time. Please see the Help Desk to request a recall.
Computer Use/Technology
The library houses 16 computers in our information commons and Mezzanine level for student/staff use. To sign-in, the patron needs to push the power button on the computer tower, and sign in as they would to Catlink. All users are subject to the library and college’s acceptable usage policy.
Laptop Checkout
Laptops are for Catawba students only. If an emergency laptop is needed, please contact IT.
Printing/Copying
To print from one of the library computers, first make sure you are signed into the gray box titled "uniFLOW SmartClient," then just click print on your document and take your Catawba ID to one of our Canon devices. Every library computer should default to "Catawba-Print" as your printer, but if not, choose that printer from the dropdown. If you would like to print in color from a library computer, go to "print options" and then "properties" and choose "Automatically" under "Color Print." Click "OK" and "Print." To retrieve the job, take your Catawba ID to a Canon device (anywhere on campus). Further instructions are listed here. If you need to print a document from your laptop, it should already be setup to print to Catawba-Print, so just print to Catawba-Print, and take your faculty ID to the copier to print the document.
To make copies, follow the directions here. Remember, library staff are always here to help.
Scanning and Faxing
To scan a document, follow the directions here, but again, you can always ask a staff member for assistance.
If you need to send a fax, please visit Student Affairs.
Cell Phone Policy
We ask that all patrons be mindful of others while using a cell phone in the library. Please consider stepping outside if you are on an extended phone call.
Food and Drink Policy
Food and Drink Policy
Food and drink are allowed in the library, but we ask that all patrons respect library property. Please do not use open containers near college computers, and please clean up any spills or trash you may have and place them in a trashcan.
