In addition to its general collections and archives, the Catawba College Library maintains several Special Collections. Details about each of the collections are provided below.
Materials from special collections may only be used inside the library. Access to materials in special collections is available at any time the library is open.
The Poetry Council of North Carolina

The Catawba College library serves as the official repository for
Poetry
Council of North Carolina materials, and Catawba serves as the
host of the Poetry Council's annual Poetry Day Awards luncheon held
on a Saturday in October.
The collection itself is comprised of over 780 books and it is a continually growing collection. The emphasis is on NC poets and poetry, but other forms of literature are also represented.
The Poetry Council of North Carolina was founded in 1949 by Dr. and Mrs. Charles A. Shull of Asheville, North Carolina. The Council consists of a board of 17 members. It sponsors an annual poetry contest and uses notable writers and teachers to judge entries in seven contest categories. The winning works are published in the Council's annual publication, Bay Leaves.
Thomas Wolfe Collection

Thomas Clayton Wolfe, novelist and short story writer, was born in
Asheville, N.C. in 1900. He died in Baltimore at the age of 37 in 1938.
Despite his brief life, he is regarded as one of the great writers of
the 20th century.
This evolving collection consists of 600-700 volumes of books and other materials related to Thomas Wolfe. Included is a first edition of Look Homeward Angel, first editions of other novels, and first editions by Aline Bernstein. There are also critical works, biographical works, clippings, and other ephemera.
The Thomas Wolfe Collection is a gift of Mr. Billy Wilkinson, a native of Newton, N.C.
